About Us
We’re KSS, your local air ambulance charity, dedicated to saving lives across Kent, Surrey, and Sussex when every second counts. Every day, our helicopters bring the emergency room to the scene fast, delivering advanced pre-hospital care to those who suddenly become injured or critically ill, across Kent, Surrey, and Sussex.
Life-threatening emergencies can happen to anyone, anywhere - on the road, in a park, or at the beach. That’s why we fly 24/7, 365 days a year, performing advanced interventions like open-heart surgery, blood transfusions, and emergency anaesthetic right at the scene. These treatments give people the very best chance of survival when time is critical.
Behind every mission is a dedicated team – from our expert doctors, paramedics, dispatchers, and pilots, to the brilliant staff and volunteers who bring passion, skill, and heart to everything we do. We serve a resident population of 5 million and a transient population of over 90 million, including commuters and tourists. On average, we respond to nine life-threatening emergencies every single day, giving people the best chance of survival and keeping families together.
The world is unpredictable. Medical emergencies can happen in an instant, changing lives forever. That’s why, for 35 years, we’ve been here – dedicated to saving lives and being there when we’re needed most.
Innovation drives us forward. We continuously research, test, and pioneer new medical techniques to improve patient outcomes. In 2024/25 alone, we responded to over 3,100 emergencies and trained tens of thousands of people in lifesaving skills like CPR and defibrillator use – both in person and through online courses. Our commitment to excellence makes us a leader not just in our region, but in pre-hospital critical care worldwide.
It costs £57k a day - £20.8m a year - to deliver our lifesaving service, with 91% of our regular income raised through donations, fundraising, and gifts in wills. Every donation helps us save lives, reunite families, and make a lasting difference across our communities.
